About the Filmmaker

Natália Machiaveli was born in São Paulo in 1985 from of a Italian decedent mother and a Portuguese father. After the failed first trial to move to the Netherlands with her family, she went again, this time alone, to study art and live in Holland her first years of adulthood, where the normal challenges of this phase mixed up with the difficulties of  being a foreigner.

Her years in the Gerrit Rietveld academy were spent in a constant search for an art that could be so personal that would reach not only the mind of the viewer, but a further place. Natália works the theme of social relations with media such as animations, photos, and video. In the movie "Troca o Trópico" (Northwards), she chooses to tell her story in a short movie as a mean to philosophy about what foreigners represent and go through these times in that country.
